NFL Week 6 Predictions | 2021

NFL DFS predictions post here every week, including projected outcomes and players to watch for every matchup. (We respond to all reader comments so jot them below.)

Thursday, Oct. 14th

BUCCANEERS (4-1) AT EAGLES (2-3) — 8:20pm ET FOX

Favorite: Tampa Bay (-7) O/U: 52.5

The Buccaneers absolutely rolled the floundering Dolphins. They find themselves at 4-1 heading into this Thursday Night Football match against an Eagles team that’s also coming off an impressive win against the 3-2 Panthers. The Buccaneers defense will have to find a way to contain Jalen Hurts. He’s the first dual threat QB they’ve faced this season and he’ll test both their front four and hobbled secondary. As for Philly, they face what may be the best receiver trio in football. Keeping Brady out of rhythm may be a tall order, even for the Eagles’ excellent pass rushers.

DFS Player to Watch: Antonio Brown | WR | $5,900 DraftKings | $7,000 FanDuel

Antonio Brown put up 124 yards and two touchdowns against the Dolphins. He’s averaging about 3.4x his salary in fantasy points and continues to be a profitable fantasy pickup, even with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin getting most of the receptions.

Sunday, Oct. 17th (Real Early Slate)

DOLPHINS (1-4) AT JAGUARS (0-5) — 9:30am ET CBS

Favorite: Miami (-3.5) O/U: 47

Technically speaking, the Jags are the home team but both squads will be playing abroad in London. How bad are these two teams throughout five weeks? They have a combined record of 1-9. The most interesting aspect of this matchup is the potential return of Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins’ stagnant offense desperately needs his spark and coach Brian Flores says he’ll “hopefully play.”

DFS Player to Watch: Trevor Lawrence | QB | $5,700 DraftKings | $6,800 FanDuel

Trevor Lawrence has slowly improved each week since his debut back in September. Sure, his passer rating is in the toilet. But he now faces a Dolphins defense that ranks near the bottom of the league in total efficiency. It could be a breakout day for Lawrence with Miami having given up 305 yards a game to QBs.

Sunday, Oct. 17th (Early Slate)

PACKERS (4-1) AT BEARS (3-2) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Green Bay (-4.5) O/U: 44.5

The oldest rivalry in the NFL sees Aaron Rodgers returning to Soldier Field to take on Justin Fields and the 3-2 Chicago Bears. The Packers and Bears have had tight games in Soldier field in recent memory and this matchup could be another close one. The Packers are 4-1, but they’re fortunate to not be 3-2 after Mason Crosby missed three straight field goals against the Bengals. On the Bears’ side, they’re easily the NFL’s worst passing offense. But they’re also fourth stingiest defense against QBs.

DFS Player to Watch: Aaron Rodgers | QB | $7,200 DraftKings | $7,700 FanDuel

Aaron Rodgers has been a man on a mission since being humiliated in week 1 against the Saints. He consistently goes 3.5x his salary and should keep the Packers’ winning streak going against its unloved division rival.

BENGALS (3-2) AT LIONS (0-5) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Cincinnati (-4.5) O/U: 47.5

Both the Bengals and Lions suffered heartbreaking losses to field goals last week in games that could have easily went in their fashion. As it is, the Lions find themselves at 0-5 and hosting a feisty 3-2 Bengals team. The Lions may be winless but they have competed every week regardless of opponent and have come agonizingly close to upsetting several teams possessing far more talent on paper. Unfortunately, the Lions’ secondary looks like a college squad and they now face a QB that’s thrown 2+ TDs in every game this year.

DFS Player to Watch: Ja’Marr Chase | WR | $6,700 DraftKings | $7,800 FanDuel

Ja’Marr Chase has been absolutely electric in his first five games as a pro. The connection he and Burrow have carried over from their LSU days has been a treat to watch. Chase has seen increasing targets with 10 last week. Don’t be surprised to see a similar number this week.

TEXANS (1-4) AT COLTS (1-4) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Indianapolis (-9.5) O/U: 43

The Texans and Colts find themselves at 1-4 with little hope of turning their seasons around. Both teams got out to early leads against the Patriots and Ravens respectively and then melted down in the final quarter. When two teams of similar records face off, it usually comes down to which team has the more consistent QB and in this case it’s Carson Wentz. That said, division games tend to be twice as unpredictable as others. The Texans could stun the Colts if Davis Mills (313 yards, 3 TDs in week 5) manages to exploit Indy’s banged up defense, particularly its coverage unit, which is graded second worst in the NFL by PFF.

DFS Player to Watch: Brandin Cooks | WR | $5,800 DraftKings | $6,500 FanDuel

The Texans absolutely must get Cooks more heavily involved. He’s their leading target by a long shot and he’s coming off two lacklustre performances. With Houston a 9.5 point dog, look for Cooks to be in Mill’s sights all day.

RAMS (4-1) AT GIANTS (1-4) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Los Angeles (-9.5) O/U: 48.5

The Giants season was a bad dream heading into their matchup last week against the Cowboys but it’s since become a nightmare. Besides getting blown out and falling to 1-4, they also lost Daniel Jones to a concussion and Saquon Barkley and rookie Kadarius Toney to ankle injuries. WR Kenny Golladay is out as well. All of this could not come at a worse time as they face Matt Stafford and the powerhouse Rams. Some matchups are so lopsided it almost seems unfair, and this is one of them.

DFS Player to Watch: Darrell Henderson Jr | RB | $6,000 DraftKings | $7,300 FanDuel

The G-men are an inferior football team to L.A. in literally every major aspect of the game. That portends a promising gameflow for Darrell Henderson Jr. He’s filled in efficiently for the injured Cam Akers and figures to be a big part of McVay’s gameplan.

CHIEFS (2-3) AT WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (2-3) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Kansas City (-7) O/U: 55.5

The Chiefs find themselves at 2-3 and below .500 in October for the first time since 2015 mostly due to their Swiss cheese defense giving up 7.1 yards of offense per snap. Washington, despite some solid offensive production from QB Heinicke, also sits at 2-3 with plenty of unanswered questions on defense. On paper the Chiefs should be heavy favorites but their abysmal showing against the Bills last Sunday confirms there’s something fundamentally wrong with this team overall. This game, in Washington, could be a lot closer than many expect.

DFS Player to Watch: Terry McLaurin | WR | $7,100 DraftKings | $7,400 FanDuel

The Chiefs offense has kept them in games and it’s the reason they’re not 1-4 at the moment. That said, we’re rolling with Terry McLaurin for this matchup. He’s a target magnet that’s averaged 3x salary in the last 4 games. Washington has been putting up plenty of points and yardage, and this man is a big reason why. And lest we forget that KC’s pass rushing and coverage units are in the bottom quartile of the NFL.

VIKINGS (2-3) AT PANTHERS (3-2) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Minnesota (-1) O/U: 46

The Vikings were finally the benefactor of a field goal going their way (versus the Lions). But they still have an uphill climb to get back into the NFC playoff race. That’s why this matchup against the Panthers is pivotal for both teams. Carolina has lost two in a row since losing McCaffrey to injury and they were outclassed in every department by an Eagles team dealing with injuries. The potential return of Dalvin Cook and McCaffrey would further complicate this matchup. Without both, it’s a toss-up.

DFS Player to Watch: D.J. Moore | WR | $7,300 DraftKings | $7,600 FanDuel

The Vikings are the weaker defenders in this matchup, allowing over 5 fantasy points more to WRs than Carolina. And Moore is the lead dog on offense, averaging over 3x salary (22.7 FPs) the past four weeks. He’ll bounce back from last week’s 8.8 point showing, which should be viewed as an aberration.

CHARGERS (4-1) AT RAVENS (4-1) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Baltimore (-3) O/U: 52

The Chargers and Ravens have played some inspired football through the first five weeks behind their elite QBs, Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson. These two players have fought tooth and nail to get their teams to 4-1 while simultaneously putting themselves in the MVP discussion. The Ravens may be the customary three-point favorites at home but this matchup is a pick ‘em as far as talent and coaching goes.

DFS Player to Watch: Keenan Allen | WR | $8,100 DraftKings | $7,100 FanDuel

Fantasy’s #1 WR, Mike Williams, is nursing a knee injury. As a result, the beneficiary of Justin Herbert’s prowess will likely be Allen this week. Allen has averaged the most targets on the team and is a go-to third-down receiver.

Sunday, Oct. 17th (Afternoon Slate)

CARDINALS (5-0) AT BROWNS (3-2) — 4:05pm ET FOX

Favorite: Cleveland (-3) O/U: 49.5

The undefeated Cardinals travel to take on Baker Mayfield’s Browns. Not long ago this would have been classified as a “tank bowl” where two horrible teams battle to lose, in order to get a higher draft pick. Flash forward to today and both teams are looking at late-round picks. The one big difference is Kyler Murray. He’s looked nearly unbeatable while Baker Mayfield has been inconsistent. It’s hard to say how much Murray’s ailing shoulder will be a factor this weekend, however. But if he plays as expected, we’ll definitely see more of his legs than last week.

DFS Player to Watch: Christian Kirk | WR | $5,000 DraftKings | $5,900 FanDuel

Christian Kirk has been a reliable target for Kyler Murray through five weeks, despite the presence of DeAndre Hopkins and a resurgent AJ Green on the roster. He may only have two touchdowns on the season thus far but with Hopkins missing multiple practices this week, he’s due for a big game.

RAIDERS (3-2) AT BRONCOS (2-3) — 4:25pm ET CBS

Favorite: Denver (-3.5) O/U: 44

The 3-2 Raiders have much bigger problems than traveling to play the 3-2 Broncos. Vegas finds itself without head coach Jon Gruden in what can only be described as a stunning turn of events. The Raiders looked promising through three weeks but it would be an achievement if interim coach Rich Bissacia somehow got the Raiders a road win versus a defense giving up the second fewest fantasy points in the NFL.

DFS Player to Watch: Teddy Bridgewater | QB | $5,700 DraftKings | $6,600 FanDuel

Teddy Bridgewater played solid football in the Broncos’ loss to the Steelers (288 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT). Vegas in turmoil could prove a great opportunity to put on a vintage Bridgewater performance. He may dump off to his RBs and TE (Fant) more often, however, as the Raiders are less effective against these positions.

COWBOYS (4-1) AT PATRIOTS (2-3) 4:25pm ET CBS

Favorite: Dallas (-3.5) O/U: 51

The 4-1 Cowboys look like the most unstoppable offense in the NFC at the moment, all due respect to the Cardinals. Now they travel to Foxborough to take on Bill Belichick’s Patriots, which survived a wild one down in Houston last week. This could prove to be one of the biggest mismatches of the weekend as even Belichick may not have answers to the Cowboys’ offensive juggernaut. Everywhere you look the Cowboys have weapons that can take the top off of opposing secondaries. That is, if the pass rush can’t get at Dak. Likewise on the defensive side of the ball, the Cowboys have taken huge strides under new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. The Patriots have their hands full on Sunday and it’s remarkable that Dallas is only a 3.5-point favorite.

DFS Player to Watch: CeeDee Lamb | WR | $6,500 DraftKings | $7,000 FanDuel

CeeDee Lamb continues to be the Cowboys’ leading receiver, even with Amari Cooper lining up opposite him. The Pats have struggled against the pass, and Dak’s line should give him enough time to sling at least 6-7 targets Lamb’s way.

Sunday, Oct. 17th (Late Slate)

SEAHAWKS (2-3) AT STEELERS (2-3) 8:20pm ET NBC

Favorite: Pittsburgh (-5) O/U: 42.5

For the first time in ten seasons the Seattle Seahawks find themselves without Russell Wilson. He suffered a finger injury against the Rams last Thursday on his throwing hand. It’s a monumental blow for the Seahawks as Wilson may be out 6-8 weeks. That kind of absence in the highly competitive NFC West could be a death sentence, especially with how porous Seattle’s defense has been. As for the Steelers, they’re coming off a convincing win against the Broncos behind a 122-yard Najee Harris rushing attack. Big Ben’s performance (253 yards and 2 TDs) was also somewhat encouraging.

DFS Player to Watch: Najee Harris | RB | $7,400 DraftKings | $8.500 FanDuel

Najee Harris tallied 142 all-purpose yards and a touchdown against a stout Broncos run defense. The Seahawks defense, by comparison, ranks near the bottom of the league against the run. Harris’s passing targets (median 6 per game) are just gravy.

Monday, Oct. 18th

BILLS (4-1) AT TITANS (3-2) — 8:15pm ET ESPN

Favorite: Buffalo (-5.5) O/U: 54

The Bills demolished the defending AFC champs in their own house on Sunday. They are once again the team to beat in the AFC. Josh Allen is somehow even better than he was last year and the Bills defense has been playing lights out to complement the offense. Titans coach Mike Vrabel’s biggest challenge could be on the defensive side of the ball. The Titans have been susceptible in the air this season. Offensively the Titans are also stuck between a rock and a hard place as Julio Jones’s participation is uncertain and the rest of the Titans receivers have been unimpressive. The Bills have allowed the 2nd fewest FPs to running backs in the league. If they take away Derrick Henry, the Titans offense could be in trouble on Monday night.

DFS Player to Watch: Dawson Knox | TE | $4,800 DraftKings | $6,700 FanDuel

When it comes to the Bills and their fantasy options on offense, you usually hear about Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs and Emmanuel Sanders. This week, Dawson Knox could get more spotlight. He’s taken major strides in his third year with the Bills and had a heck of a game last week against the Chiefs (117 receiving yards and a touchdown on only three receptions). For those trying to find the best tight end of week 6, Knox is a top 3 TE that checks a lot of boxes. Despite the Titan’s proficiency against ends, he could potentially score 3.5x his salary or more.

NFL Week 5 Predictions | 2021

Week 15 DFS starts at Sofi Stadium. We've got all the predictions to start your DFS research

NFL DFS predictions post here every week, including projected outcomes and players to watch for every matchup. (We respond to all reader comments so jot them below.)

Thursday, Oct. 7th

RAMS (3-1) AT SEAHAWKS (2-2) — 8:20pm ET FOX

Favorite: Los Angeles (-2.5) O/U: 54.5

The 3-1 LA Rams head up to Seattle to take on the 2-2 Seahawks. A division win for either team will be pivotal down the line. The Rams are coming off of a 37-20 thrashing at home by the Cardinals while the Hawks enjoyed a 28-21 road win against the 49ers. The X-factor Thursday will be the Rams’ defense—and how Russell Wilson is able to deal with Aaron Donald in his face all night.

DFS Player to Watch: Van Jefferson | WR | $3,500 DraftKings | $5,000 FanDuel

Van Jefferson was the most effective receiver for Stafford last week against the Cardinals and he’s still undervalued due to presence of both Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods. Jefferson has 226 yards and two touchdowns on the season and Thursday’s matchup against the Seahawks’ 21st ranked defense could be a fruitful night for the 2nd-year Rams receiver.

Sunday, Oct. 10th (Real Early Slate)

JETS (1-3) AT FALCONS (1-3) — 9:30am ET NFLN

Favorite: Atlanta (-3) O/U: 46

The Jets and the Falcons will both make the trip across the Atlantic in a battle of 1-3’s at London’s Wembley Stadium. The Jets pulled out their first win in OT against the Titans while the Falcons suffered a close loss to the Washington Football Team at home. Matt Ryan will not have Calvin Ridley to aim at in this game because of a personal matter and the Jets pass rush is far from the worst in the league. Moreover, rookie Zach Wilson will follow up a confidence-inspiring win after upsetting the Titans and throwing for almost 300 yards.

DFS Player to Watch: Cordarrelle Patterson | RB | $5,900 DraftKings | $7,500 FanDuel

The 30-year-old receiver (ahem, running back) is coming off a three-TD performance. We can’t count on a repeat of that, but with Calvin Ridley absent, Patterson could easily get more than last week’s six targets. More importantly, he’ll feast on one of the most porous run-D’s in the NFL.

Sunday, Oct. 10th (Early Slate)

PACKERS (3-1) AT BENGALS (3-1) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Green Bay (-3) O/U: 51

Two 3-1 division leading teams duel at Paul Brown Stadium. While the Bengals have had hard-fought duels to earn their victories, they have yet to face a QB like Aaron Rodgers. The Bengals have the advantage of playing at home and a few extra days of rest, but that might not be enough to mitigate Rodgers, Adams and Jones. If he wants the win, Joe Burrow will need to top last week’s 348-yard two-TD performance against a mid-tier defense, and hope Green Bay RB Aaron Jones is slowed by his recent ankle injury.

DFS Player to Watch: Tyler Boyd | WR | $5,300 DraftKings | $6,300 FanDuel

Tyler Boyd had a quiet start to the season through the first three games but managed a breakthrough performance against the Jaguars. On Thursday Night Football he put up a 118-yard performance. With Cincy RB Joe Mixon possibly out, Burrow will have to sling the ball more. And if Tee Higgins remains out or limited in Friday’s practice, Boyd could be a value pickup.

LIONS (0-4) AT VIKINGS (1-3) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Minnesota (-9) O/U: 49

The Lions and Vikings have the unpleasant honor of currently sitting at the bottom of the NFC North. The only thing consistent about both teams has been their inconsistency week. The Vikings desperately need this win in order to stay relevant in the NFC North. The Lions, however, will start thinking about building for 2022 if they slip to 0-5. The Lions don’t have history on their side. They’re 0-7 in their last seven meetings with the Vikings.

DFS Player to Watch: Adam Thielen | WR | $6,600 DraftKings | $7,500 FanDuel

We could have picked any Minny WR because the Lions pass coverage is in shambles. Thielen, meanwhile, has scored at least one touchdown in every game, minus last week’s contest against the Browns. He hasn’t cracked the 100-yard mark this season, but if there were ever a defense to do it against, it’s this one.

BRONCOS (3-1) AT STEELERS (1-3) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Pittsburgh (-1) O/U: 39.5

The Broncos have worries at the QB position as Teddy Bridgewater was knocked out of the Baltimore game with a concussion. If he can’t go then it will be Drew Lock against a shaky Steelers pass defense on the road. Both team’s QBs look unimpressive to put it mildly, so we wouldn’t be pounding their receivers in fantasy. If Bridgewater is able to return in time that may be enough to tip the scale in Denver’s favor. Look for this to potentially be a low-scoring snoozer.

DFS Player to Watch: Najee Harris | RB | $6,900 DraftKings | $7,300 FanDuel

Harris keeps turning lemons into lemonade on an offense that’s lost its passing mojo. The rookie back has logged at least 19 fantasy points in his last three appearances. Denver’s run-D is tough but Harris knows how to catch a short pass and that’s about all Roethlisberger can throw these days.

DOLPHINS (1-3) AT BUCCANEERS (3-1) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Tampa Bay (-10) O/U: 48

The Miami Dolphins are broken. There is something fundamentally wrong with this football team and it runs much deeper than the absence of Tua. The offense looks lost, the defense is gassed from too much field time and opponents seem to know what plays they’re going to run before they do. The Buccaneers are coming off an emotional 19-17 victory over the Patriots, despite being down several corners and playmakers. The Dolphins need to figure out their problems in a hurry because the Buccaneers are a top 5 offense that won’t be taking prisoners.

DFS Player to Watch: Tom Brady | QB| $7,400 DraftKings | $8,400 FanDuel

Tom Brady didn’t dominate against his former team like many expected him to. He’ll want to return to his MVP-candidate self against the woeful Dolphins in front of his home crowd. At home Brady has thrown for 655 yards, 9 touchdowns and 2 picks. On the road Brady has thrown for 701 yards but only one touchdown. Brady plays better at home and that should continue on Sunday.

SAINTS (2-2) AT WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (2-2) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: New Orleans (-2) O/U: 44

The unpredictable Saints and Washington Football Team should prove interesting for multiple reasons. For starters, it’s already week 5, yet it’s hard to say how good or bad either of these teams really are. The Saints laid an egg last Sunday against the winless Giants in their home opener and Washington, through the heroics of Taylor Heinicke, stole two last-minute games against the Giants and Falcons. Washington’s defense continues to struggle with injuries while the Saints Brees-less damaged-receiver offense is the reason they’ve been struggling.

DFS Player to Watch: Alvin Kamara | RB | $8,600 DraftKings | $8,600 FanDuel

Alvin Kamara has been a reliable weapon for Jameis Winston through four weeks. Consider his zero targets last week an aberration. He should pose a major challenge in the run and pass game for Ron Rivera’s defense.

EAGLES (1-3) AT PANTHERS (3-1) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Carolina (-3.5) O/U: 45

The Panthers are looking to get back on track against an Eagles team that, despite a valiant effort against the Chiefs, look outclassed against top-tier opponents. Jalen Hurts is proving every week that he is a starting quarterback in this league. His maturation and growth is why the Eagles have been able to hang around in games at all. The biggest question is whether or not McCaffrey, a game-time decision, will be available for the Panthers.

DFS Player to Watch: D.J. Moore | WR | $7,500 DraftKings | $7,900 FanDuel

D.J. Moore has developed incredible chemistry with Sam Darnold through four weeks. That connection figures to grow even more against a depleted Eagles defense. With 398 receiving yards and three touchdowns in four games, Moore is a fantasy powerhouse.

TITANS (2-2) AT JAGUARS (0-4) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Tennessee (-4.5) O/U: 48.5

The Titans, like the Saints and Washington Football Team, are a puzzler. They have a bad habit of playing down to inferior opponents but also an uncanny knack for rising to the occasion against fierce opponents. That’s what makes this game so tough to analyze. Yes, the Jaguars are an inferior team on paper and the Titans should handle them easily, but the Jags have extra days of rest and have improved since week 1. If Julio Jones is unavailable again the game will be closer.

DFS Player to Watch: Trevor Lawrence | QB | $5,800 DraftKings | $6,500 FanDuel

Trevor Lawrence, like the rest of the Jaguars, has shown growth in his last few games. The Titans’ secondary, and defense in general, has several gaps that Trevor may be able to exploit if his O-line gives time. He may not win, but he should at least 3.5x his salary on DraftKings.

PATRIOTS (1-3) AT TEXANS (1-3) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: New England (-9) O/U: 39.5

While it’s understandable for the Texans to be in the shape they’re in—considering injuries and shallow talent—the Patriots’ record is more surprising. They spent a load in free agency, on both sides of the ball. This game is about one team getting back on track and the other going further down the rebuilding rabbit hole. If the Patriots defense plays as well as it did against the Bucs and Mac Jones continues to take strides, this should be a relatively easy day for Bill Belichick & co.

DFS Player to Watch: Kendrick Bourne | WR | $4,000 DraftKings | $5,200 FanDuel

Kendrick Bourne has been an under-the-radar type receiver. He’s incredibly reliable, catches what’s thrown to him and is capable of putting up incredible YAC numbers when given the opportunity. And his price is right.

Sunday, Oct. 10th (Aft. Slate)

BEARS (2-2) AT RAIDERS (3-1) — 4:05pm ET CBS

Favorite: Las Vegas (-5.5) O/U: 44

The Raiders were handed their first loss by the surging Chargers. Now they’ll face a Bears team with an aspiring pass rush. The good news for the Raiders is that the Bears offense has ranked near the bottom of the league (948 yards of total offense in four weeks with both Dalton and Fields managing a whopping zero passing touchdowns). Vegas also has a defense graded top 3 by PFF. If it can get to Fields early that’ll be the difference maker.

DFS Player to Watch: Hunter Renfrow | WR | $4,900 DraftKings | $5,800 FanDuel

Hunter Renfrow has proven to be one of Derek Carr’s most elusive and reliable receivers. That should continue this week at home against the Bears’ second-rate coverage unit. Renfrow, who led the team in targets last week, caught two total touchdowns all of last year. He’s already got two in 2021.

BROWNS (3-1) AT CHARGERS (3-1) — 4:05pm ET CBS

Favorite: Los Angeles (-1.5) O/U: 47

The saying goes that stats don’t lie. Here’s what the stats tell us about this matchup: The Browns are averaging 25 points of offense through four games while the Chargers are averaging 23.4. On defense the Browns are holding opponents to 16.75 points and the Chargers are holding them to 18.4 points a game. These are two teams putting up nearly identical numbers. That should make for both an exciting game and a fruitful fantasy opportunity, between two playoff contenders in the AFC.

DFS Player to Watch: Austin Ekeler | RB | $7,600 DraftKings | $7,700 FanDuel

Through four games Austin Ekeler has logged 283 yards rushing and two touchdowns in addition to 141 receiving yards and two more touchdowns off catches. Some may not like this matchup but Ekeler is an elite running back in this league. Choosing the best DFS running back is not always about picking the best matchups. His dual threat ability means the chargers will lean on him against a stingy Browns defense.

GIANTS (1-3) AT COWBOYS (3-1) — 4:25pm ET FOX

Favorite: Dallas (-7) O/U: 52

The Cowboys look to be the class of the NFC East and, health permitting, should have no issues taking the division come January. However, as mentioned before, divisional games entail more variance. The Giants could very well be 2-2 right now had a field goal gone the other way in week 2. Their victory against the Saints is proof of their resilience against more talented and better coached teams. Still, despite Daniel Jones’ impressive showing of late, beating a surging Cowboys team–who’s quarterback is playing the best football of his career–is not in the tea leaves.

DFS Player to Watch: Tony Pollard | RB | $5,600 DraftKings | $5,600 FanDuel

Tony Pollard has proven a dependable #2 running back for the Cowboys. He’ll continue to see action against the Giants, particularly if Elliot is held back . While Pollard has only one rushing touchdown on the season, he’s also put up 250 yards of rushing. He’s also averaged more yards per attempt than Elliott ( 6.8 Y/A compared to 5.3).

49ERS (2-2) AT CARDINALS (4-0) 4:25pm ET CBS

Favorite: Arizona (-5.5) O/U: 50

Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a calf bruise that could sideline him for this matchup which would pave the way for 2021 third overall pick Trey Lance to get his first NFL start. While this would normally be exciting news for a fanbase desperate to see what their future looks like, it unfortunately comes against the undefeated Cardinals. The Cardinals are the real deal and will likely go to 5-0.

DFS Player to Watch: Deebo Samuel | WR | $7,100 DraftKings | $7,700 FanDuel

Deebo Samuel leads the league in receiving yards (490) and yards after the catch (266). He’s also averaging 122.5 yards a game. To give perspective, Jerry Rice’s all-time high was 115.5 yards back in 1995. We are witnessing the evolution of a WR who’s going from talented to elite. Rookie QBs lean on their best pass catcher, especially when trailing against the #1 team in football.

Sunday, Oct. 10th (Late Slate)

BILLS (3-1) AT CHIEFS (2-2) 8:20pm ET NBC

Favorite: Kansas City (-2.5) O/U: 56.5

A rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game gets the national spotlight on to Sunday Night Football. The Bills have looked almost unbeatable, minus their week one collapse against the Steelers. K.C., while still putting up impressive offensive numbers, has nothing but holes on D. The Bills will seek to exploit them in what could be an early playoff preview.

DFS Player to Watch: Emmanuel Sanders | WR | $4,900 DraftKings | $6,200 FanDuel

Emmanuel Sanders continues to be one of the most reliable receivers in the game despite his age. He’s a great value start against a team battling the Lions for the NFL’s worst defense.

Monday, Oct. 11th

COLTS (1-3) AT RAVENS (3-1) — 8:15pm ET ESPN

Favorite: Baltimore (-7) O/U: 46

The Colts finally earned their first win of the season against the woeful Dolphins. Now they get to play a red hot Ravens team that have moved into a high gear behind Lamar Jackson’s play. This matchup figured to be a possible playoff preview before the season started but the Colts’ surprising 1-3 record and seemingly interminable injury list make it a brutal uphill climb for Carson Wentz and co.

DFS Player to Watch: Marquise Brown | WR | $5,800 DraftKings | $6,800 FanDuel

“Hollywood” Brown has had an incredible start to his season (326 yards, 3 touchdowns and averaging 17.2 yards) and it’s a near certainty that it’ll persist against a Colts secondary that ranks near the bottom of the league.

NFL Week 4 Predictions | 2021

DFS action continues this week at the Superdome

NFL DFS predictions post here every Wednesday evening, including projected outcomes and players to watch for every matchup, every week. (We respond to all reader comments so jot them below.)

Thursday, Sept. 30th

JAGUARS (0-3) AT BENGALS (2-1) — 8:20pm ET NFLN

Favorite: Cincinnati (-7.5) O/U: 45.5

The battle between the 2020 and 2021 first overall picks kicks off week 4 on Thursday night football. Trevor Lawrence and the Jags will struggle for their first win of the season against a surprising Burrow-led squad. The Bengals are in year three of their rebuild and the Jags are only 4 games into theirs. The Bengals, meanwhile, have clawed their way to a 2-1 start. And they did it with impressive wins over the Vikings and Steelers. Cincinnati is playing at home, its defense is top 5 in fantasy points and Jacksonville has just about the worst pass rush in the league. Say no more.

DFS Player to Watch: Joe Burrow | QB | $5,900 DraftKings | $7,200 FanDuel

Joe Burrow has 640 passing yards, 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions through the Bengals’ first 3 games. While his worst game of the season came against the Bears defense during week 2, he bounced back bigtime against the Steelers with three TDs last week. The Jags defense (DST22) is a work in progress so look for Burrow to exploit their weaknesses and feed both a red hot Ja’Marr Chase and a reliable Tyler Boyd.

Sunday, Oct. 3rd (Early Slate)

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (1-2) AT FALCONS (1-2) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Washington (-1) O/U: 48

The Falcons finally notched their first win against an abysmal Giants team that continues to trend downward. Washington had the unfortunate task of playing the Bills on the road last week. The 43-21 final score reflects just how outclassed they were. This matchup is a lot closer. The Falcons have Matt Ryan, Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts, and Washington has coughed up the most DK points to QBs this year. Meanwhile, Washington’s underachieving defense (DST 32) must penetrate the Falcons’ porous o-line to come out on top. This portends to be one of the tighter contests of the weekend.

DFS Player to Watch: Taylor Heinicke | QB | $5,900 DraftKings | $7,400 FanDuel

Taylor Heinicke’s stock came falling back to earth after his 2 TD/2 INT performance against the Bills last week. Clearly he won’t be carrying this team to the playoffs on his shoulders. Nonetheless, this matchup is a prime chance for him to rebound, as he’ll have to throw to keep up, given the points Washington may give up. WFT’s pass blocking is solid and as long as its line gives Heinicke time, he should give fantasy owners sufficient value against a bottom-5 defense.

TEXANS (1-2) AT BILLS (2-1) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Buffalo (-16.5) O/U: 47

Josh Allen (QB7) and the Bills must be licking their chops. This one is being billed as one of the biggest mismatches of the year. The Texans are woefully outmatched on both sides of the ball to the point where not getting blown out by double digits would be considered a victory in itself. The Bills should take control of this game early and never let up.

DFS Player to Watch: Emmanuel Sanders | WR | $4,900 DraftKings | $5,800 FanDuel

Emmanuel Sanders has been tremendous for the Bills thus far (194 yards, 2 TDs). Yet, he remains undervalued thank to Stefon Diggs being Josh Allen’s number one target. Look for Sanders to get plenty of action against the Texans’ below-average secondary.

LIONS (0-3) AT BEARS (1-2) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Chicago (-3) O/U: 42.5

The Lions would’ve beat the Ravens had it not been for a blown call and a record 66-yard field. They held tough against a Ravens team that many consider vastly superior on paper. The Bears, on the other hand, got thoroughly outclassed by the Browns. Justin Fields was a human piñata, getting sacked nine times. Fields was held to one (yes, one) net yard passing due to Fields being sacked for 67 yards. That’s almost impossibly bad. We know the Lions will show up and give their all. Dan Campbell and his coaching staff will make sure of it. Moreover, the Bears look completely lost offensively. This could be a key turning point for both teams and set their pace for the rest of the season. Bears head coach Matt Nagy told the media that he hasn’t made a decision on who his starting QB will be for week 4. Fields, Dalton and Foles are all in the running. What a mess.

DFS Player to Watch: T.J. Hockenson | TE | $5,800 DraftKings | $6,600 FanDuel

T.J. Hockenson (TE 3) has turned out to be Goff’s most reliable and explosive threat. With no other brand name receivers on this team, Hockenson will continue producing for fantasy owners against a lousy Bears defense.

PANTHERS (3-0) AT COWBOYS (2-1) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: Dallas (-4.5) O/U: 50.5

Dak Prescott and Sam Darnold have their teams on a tear. This matchup could come down to one man’s health, or lack thereof, and that man is Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey suffered a hamstring injury against the Texans on Thursday night football and he remains doubtful for Sunday’s game. Darnold and the Panthers could be in for a long day against an opportunistic Cowboys defense that’s scored the 6th most fantasy points this year. Carolina top overall defense may finally crack this week.

DFS Player to Watch: Dak Prescott | QB| $6,700 DraftKings | $7,700 FanDuel

Dak Prescott has thrown three TDs in 2 of 3 games since his return from injury. That’s despite a forgettable performance against the Chargers in week 2. This is a surmountable matchup for him at home, against a tough Panthers defense, but one plagued by a few key injuries.

COLTS (0-3) AT DOLPHINS (1-2) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Miami (-2) O/U: 42.5

The Colts are sitting at 0-3 and the Dolphins are sitting at 1-2 after a heartbreaker to the Raiders in OT. Both the Colts and Dolphins are dealing with the injury bug, but the difference is that Indy has their starting QB. Miami does not. If the fins defense can’t get to Wentz early then both teams could emerge from this matchup with 1-3 records.

DFS Player to Watch: Jaylen Waddle | WR | $4,900 DraftKings | $5,400 FanDuel

Jaylen Waddle will get ample attention from the Colts’ corners and safeties but Brissett will target him all the same. Despite Waddle being a rookie, he’s emerged as a legit threat for the Dolphins. He’s been productive even with an injured Tua on the sidelines. Oh, and Indy’s coverage unit has more holes than a spaghetti strainer.

BROWNS (2-1) AT VIKINGS (1-2) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Cleveland (-2) O/U: 51.5

Cleveland and Minnesota are both coming off home victories against the Bears and Seahawks, respectively, But they went about it in completely different ways. The Browns were able to win with the strength of their pass rush while the Vikings put on an offensive show, particularly Kirk Cousins. The question is, which will take the day: defense or offense? The Vikings have their powerful home field advantage on their side, but Cousins will have to continue to play lights out and get the ball out quickly. The Browns pass rush is starting to hit its stride with Jadeveon Clowney and Myles Garrett coming off the edges. This one could be a highly charged passfest.

DFS Player to Watch: Kirk Cousins | QB | $6,400 DraftKings | $7,500 FanDuel

Kirk Cousins has scored 25+ fantasy points in every game this year, with no INTs. He was our choice last week and there’s no reason to ignore him this week. The man has thrown for 918 yards and 8 touchdowns in only three games. He’s playing at an all-time high, and he’s at home in the deafening dome.

GIANTS (0-3) AT SAINTS (2-1) — 1:00pm ET FOX

Favorite: New Orleans (-7.5) O/U: 42

The Saints finally return to the Superdome for the first time this season after Hurricane Ida. The 0-3 Giants have the thankless task of trying to upend the Saints in front of a raucous crowd of “who datters.” The Saints defense put the hurt on Mac Jones and the Pats on Sunday. They’ll look to make Daniel Jones’ life equally miserable. The Saints need consistency from Jameis, however. He had another uneven game against the Patriots, but this Giants defense should prove a perfect opportunity to master Sean Payton’s complex offense.

DFS Player to Watch: Alvin Kamara | RB | $8,400 DraftKings | $9,000 FanDuel

The Giants mediocre pass defense aside, the Saints passing attack is feeble. Hence, we turn our attention to Kamara, a man they’re relying on heavily against the subpar Giants run-D. And yes, his price is rich, but for a reason.

TITANS (2-1) AT JETS (0-3) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Tennessee (-7) O/U: 45

The Titans have won two straight games against the Seahawks and Colts. They’ll look to build on that against the 0-3 Jets, who might make a solid CFL team. The Titans mediocre defense still has plenty of question marks, but they should have no problem getting after Zac Wilson. Texans vs Bills is still the leading contender for biggest mismatch of the weekend, but this game is a strong second.

DFS Player to Watch: Chester Rogers | WR | $3,300 DraftKings | $5,100 FanDuel

Tannehill could be without his two top receivers this weekend. For $3,300 on DK, Rogers is worth a roll of the dice. (Westbrook-Ikhine is an alternative.) If Rogers can’t go at least 3.5x his salary against the Jets, something’s wrong.

CHIEFS (1-2) AT EAGLES (1-2) — 1:00pm ET CBS

Favorite: Kansas City (-7) O/U: 54.5

The Eagles are coming off an injury-riddled beatdown to the Cowboys. They face a Chiefs team that’s below .500 in September for the first time since 2015. While playing at home usually is an advantage in the NFL, it probably won’t help Philly against a Chiefs squad that’s hungrier than ever. Philly’s best chance at staying in this game is by taking advantage of the Chiefs’ suspect secondary and extend drives as long as possible.

DFS Player to Watch: Clyde Edwards-Helaire | RB | $5,400 DraftKings | $6,700 FanDuel

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has run for 189 yards this season but hasn’t found the end zone yet. With Philly’s defensive line being banged up and vulnerable, Andy Reid may call Clyde’s number in red zone situations.

Sunday, Oct. 3rd (Aft. Slate)

CARDINALS (3-0) AT RAMS (3-0) — 4:05pm ET FOX

Favorite: Los Angeles (-4.5) O/U: 55

The first NFC West matchup of the year features the 3-0 Cardinals vs the 3-0 Rams. After this game there will be one undefeated team left in the NFL’s toughest division. Both teams are balanced and feature two dynamic quarterbacks that can make defenses look bad. What separates the two teams? Coaching. Sean McVay has proven to be the best coach in the division. What he’s been able to do with Stafford this year has been dazzling. Kingsbury still has questionable play calls and poor clock management. Both could be a factor against arguably the top team in the NFC.

DFS Player to Watch: Cooper Kupp | WR | $7,800 DraftKings | $8,600 FanDuel

The Cards are vulnerable to the run, which could open things up yet again for Cooper Kupp. Kupp has been Stafford’s favorite target through three weeks, and coming out of the slot he’ll no doubt remain a difference maker as Stafford battles a high-caliber pass rush.

SEAHAWKS (1-2) AT 49ERS (2-1) — 4:05pm ET FOX

Favorite: San Francisco (-3) O/U: 52

The 49ers suffered a brutal home loss to the Packers on a last-second field goal, dropping them to 2-1 on the season. The Seahawks were outclassed by the Vikings on the road dropping them to 1-2. While both teams are suffering from similar issues in their secondaries, their offenses are also dealing with injuries and inconsistencies of their own—most notably in their running games. This matchup should come down to which QB takes greater advantage of the opposing defense’s secondary. In that case the edge goes to Wilson. His ability to throw deep downfield to Lockett and Metcalf is a huge edge. By contrast, Jimmy Garoppolo has ranked dead last in passes beyond 20 yards through the first three weeks of the season. Fun fact: since Levi’s stadium opened in 2014, the 49ers have only beaten Wilson and the Seahawks once.

DFS Player to Watch: Tyler Lockett | WR | $7,100 DraftKings | $7,900 FanDuel

Lockett keeps opposing defensive coordinators awake at night. With the 49ers’ cornerback room being as barren as a moon crater, it’s almost a given that Russ is going to find Lockett often. Exploit that mismatch.

STEELERS (1-2) AT PACKERS (2-1) — 4:25pm ET CBS

Favorite: Green Bay (-6.5) O/U: 45.5

The Steelers are 1-2 and inundated with injuries. The main question, however, is how much Big Ben has left in the tank. How much more will his pectoral issue hold him back given he’s already having trouble passing for distance? As for the Packers, they’re flying high after toppling the Niners on the road. They’ll seek to take advantage of a limping Steelers team that continues to fade in the standings amid injuries, a battered QB and lack of execution offensively.

DFS Player to Watch: Aaron Jones | RB | $7,700 DraftKings | $7,400 FanDuel

The Pack will likely be playing with a lead most of the game. That game flow suggests that Aaron Jones should get bonus carries in the second half, on top of at least 4 targets.

RAVENS (2-1) AT BRONCOS (3-0) 4:25pm ET CBS

Favorite: Denver (-1) O/U: 45

The Ravens survived a thriller against the Lions with the longest field goal ever made in the NFL. Their task is considerably more challenging this week as they face the 3-0 Broncos. Denver’s defense is firing on all cylinders. It’s one of only four D-units that have averaged 10+ fantasy points per game. Moreover, its QB Bridgewater has shown no signs of slowing down. Add in the fact that Mile High stadium is an altitude struggle for visiting teams and there’s a tall task ahead for John Harbaugh’s gang.

DFS Player to Watch: Tim Patrick | WR | $4,900 DraftKings | $6,100 FanDuel

Tim Patrick is one of the more underrated receivers in the AFC from a production standpoint. Through the first three weeks he and Bridgewater have connected for 174 yards and 2 touchdowns. There’s little reason to believe that productivity can’t continue this week.

Sunday, Sept. 26th (Late Slate)

BUCCANEERS (2-1) AT PATRIOTS (1-2) 8:20pm ET NBC

Favorite: Tampa Bay (-6.5) O/U: 49

This is it. The return of Tom Brady to Gillette stadium. The media has been salivating over this matchup since the NFL schedule was announced. The prodigal son returns to where he earned six titles. He plays against the man that many believed shoved him out the back door prematurely. There’s no telling how much longer Brady will play but the next time the Bucs would face the Pats is in 2025. This could be the first and last time Brady squares off against both the Pats and Belichick. After suffering a 34-24 loss to the Bucs on Sunday, you can bet Brady and the Bucs will be foaming at the mouth to beat a 1-2 team whose defense has lost a few steps.

DFS Player to Watch: Chris Godwin | WR | $6,300 DraftKings | $7,500 FanDuel

Chris Godwin has seen a bulk of targets from Brady and that connection should persist amid questions about Antonio Brown’s availability, and given Scotty Miller was just placed on IR.

Monday, Oct. 4th

RAIDERS (3-0) AT CHARGERS (2-1) — 8:15pm ET ESPN

Favorite: Las Angeles (-3.5) O/U: 52.5

The wild, wild AFC west gets a marquee divisional game between the 3-0 Raiders and the 2-1 Chargers. For those of you who took the first three weeks off, Justin Herbert and Derek Carr are playing the best football of their careers. Herbert is coming off a monster performance (26-38, 281 yards and 4 TDs) on the road against the Chiefs. It’s only week 4 but this is the kind of matchup that can alter divisional standings come January. A loss for either team could be the difference between winning the division or being out of the playoffs entirely. Get ready for a PVR-worthy masterpiece on Monday Night Football.

DFS Player to Watch: Mike Williams | WR | $7,200 DraftKings | $7,800 FanDuel

We got back to stud Mike Williams. The rapport he and Herbert have together has been a treat to watch. If you need reliable floor points this week, Williams is your guy.

NFL Week 3 Predictions | 2021

NFL DFS predictions post here every Wednesday evening, including projected outcomes and players to watch for every matchup, every week. (We respond to all reader comments so jot them below.)

Thursday, Sept. 23rd

PANTHERS (2-0) AT TEXANS (1-1) — 8:20pm EST NFLN

Favorite: Carolina (-8) O/U: 43

Sam Darnold’s Panthers are flying high after starting 2-0 and defeating their division rival Saints 26-7. Now, Matt Rhule’s squad squares off against a banged up Texans team in week three, one without QB Tyrod Taylor. Rookie Davis Mills gets the start behind center for Houston and few will be risking their bankroll on him. The Texans must find a way to slow down McCaffrey and Darnold if they want their wounded secondary not to be ravaged.

DFS Player to Watch: Mark Ingram II RB | $5,100 DraftKings | $5,900 FanDuel

Christian McCaffrey should feast on the Texans’ lowly run defence. But with Taylor out of commission, we turn our attention to backfield leader Mark Ingram II. The Texans could look to Ingram to take the pressure off a green Davis Mills. Ingram will have low ownership thanks to Carolina limiting star RB Alvin Kamara to just 5 points last week. But is Carolina’s run defense playing slightly over its head? Either way, Ingram has 126 yards and a touchdown through two games. He’ll do what he has to do to cross the 200-yard mark on Thursday.

Sunday, Sept. 26th (Early Slate)

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (1-1) AT BILLS (1-1) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Buffalo (-8) O/U: 45

Washington’s defensive line had been hailed by many NFL media as their biggest strength. Watching last Thursday’s thriller against the Giants would seem to dispel that notion. The Giants were able to gash them on the ground and in the air with regularity—despite having a banged up O-line. Washington’s shaky coverage unit needs to tighten up if it hopes to contain Josh Allen and the Bills’ fiery offense. Buffalo comes off a 35-0 demolition of the Miami Dolphins.

DFS Player to Watch: Terry McLaurin | WR | $6,900 DraftKings | $7,200 FanDuel

He’s a player most fantasy owners have already warmed up to. Washington receiver Terry McLaurin racked up 107 yards on 11 receptions and scored a touchdown against the Giants last week. Heinicke will more than likely target the reliable McLaurin early and often, the Bills’ vaunted pass rush notwithstanding. Game flow, a critical factor when choosing a DFS wide receiver, should also play in McLaurin’s favor in the 2nd half — with WFT most likely in catchup mode.

BEARS (1-1) AT BROWNS (1-1) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Cleveland (-7) O/U: 46

Justin Fields gets his first NFL start after Andy Dalton left the game against the Bengals with a maimed knee. He’ll have an unpleasant task ahead of him versus the Cleveland Browns on the road. The Baker Mayfield suffered a scare of his own against the Texans but returned to the game shortly after injuring his left shoulder. Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. should make his 2021 debut in this game.

DFS Player to Watch: Nick Chubb | RB | $7,600 DraftKings | $7,800 FanDuel

Nick Chubb figures to get ample carries against the Bears in a positive game script. That’s especially true if Mayfield’s left shoulder is still nagging him. The Bears defense is still formidable up front but look for the Browns’ run blockers (ranked #3 by PFF) to get Chubb the rushing lanes he needs.

RAVENS (1-1) AT LIONS (0-2) — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Baltimore (-8) O/U: 50

Lamar and the Ravens bounced back from the crushing loss to the Raiders in week 1, squeaking it out against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Lions are now 0-2 and suffering major injury after major injury. The Ravens are trending up and the rebuilding Lions, while far from push-overs, are trending down. This could be a long afternoon for the Lions depleted secondary.

DFS Player to Watch: Lamar Jackson | QB | $7,800 DraftKings | $8,400 FanDuel

Lamar Jackson is one of the easier choices this week. He was a one-man battering ram against the Chiefs and, despite two costly interceptions, he passed for 239 yards and a TD. More impressively, Super-Lamar ran for 107 yards and two additional touchdowns. The Lions defense, in defending the run, should repeatedly leave Lamar’s passing lanes open.

COLTS (0-2) AT TITANS (1-1) — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Tennessee (-5.5) O/U: 48

The Colts and Titans are considered to be the class of the AFC South and their first swing at taking the division title away from the other begins this Sunday. The Colts will look to get their first win of the season potentially without Carson Wentz who suffered injuries to both his ankles against the Rams. The Titans will look to carry the momentum from their epic 33-30 OT win against the Seahawks to make it 2-1 on the season.

DFS Player to Watch: A.J. Brown | WR| $6,500 DraftKings | $6,800 FanDuel

A.J. Brown has had a relatively quiet start to this 2021 campaign, managing only one TD and 92 receiving yards. The Colts may overcommit to stopping Derrick Henry up front and have their secondary lock in on Julio Jones. That could leave more opportunities for Brown in a big game against his division rivals.

CHARGERS (1-1) AT CHIEFS (1-1) — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Kansas City (-6.5) O/U: 55

The Chargers and Chiefs are both coming off of heartbreaking losses. Each will look to sling the ball early, and take a key division win away from the other. The big question is, has QB Justin Herbert and his offense taken enough strides forward to match the explosiveness of Mahomes? The Chiefs’ are much better positioned to win a shootout, but they’ll cough up many points along the way.

DFS Player to Watch: Mike Williams | WR | $6,400 DraftKings | $6,000 FanDuel

Mike Williams should see plenty of action against the Chiefs on Sunday. He is arguably Justin Herbert’s most trusted and reliable target. Williams hasn’t had a 100-yard game yet but with KC’s impotent run-D focusing on Austin Ekeler, things should loosen up for him in the secondary.

SAINTS (1-1) AT PATRIOTS (1-1) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: New England (-3) O/U: 42

Jameis Winston came crashing back down to earth on the road against a young Panthers D, recording two interceptions and no touchdowns. That’s relevant given Bill Belichick’s defense is still above average overall. If the Saints are to have a shot at beating the Pats in Foxborough, Jameis must: (A) shake off the drubbing he took from the Panthers, and (B) rekindle the audacity he showed against the Packers in week 1.

DFS Player to Watch: Mac Jones | QB | $5,100 DraftKings | $6,500 FanDuel

Mac Jones was solid in his first start (29-39, 281 yards and a touchdown) but his numbers against the porous Jets defense weren’t nearly as impressive. Despite a 25-6 victory, Jones went 22-30, 186 yards and no touchdowns. Jones hasn’t been compelled to throw deep over the middle in his first two games, but that figures to change sooner than later. This could be the game that Josh McDaniels dials up big plays for his first-round quarterback. He’ll need them with the Saints so tough against the run.

FALCONS (0-2) AT GIANTS (0-2) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: NY Giants (-3) O/U: 48

The Falcons are coming off of two horrendous blowout losses and the Giants are coming off an undisciplined heartbreaker against Washington. The Falcons have talent on the offensive side of the ball but their defense is almost nonexistent. If the Giants can draw up a similar game plan for Daniel Jones as they did against Washington he’ll take advantage of the Falcons missing secondary and get a much-needed NFC East win.

DFS Player to Watch: Daniel Jones | QB | $5,800 DraftKings | $7,400 FanDuel

Daniel Jones was not the reason his team inexplicably lost to Washington last Thursday. It was one of his most productive starts (22-32, 249 yards and 1 touchdown). If Kenny Golladay plays (hip), fantasy owners who want a low-risk lower-priced QB should consider Jones — against one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

BENGALS (1-1) AT STEELERS (1-1) — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Pittsburgh (-3) O/U: 43.5

If there’s one word that describes this game it would be: redemption. Joe Burrow will look to redeem himself after one of his worst starts efficiency-wise. Against the Bears he went 19-30, throwing for 207 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Big Ben and the Steelers will also seek to redeem their sluggish loss to Vegas last week. It might only be week 3 of the season but divisional games carry twice the weight and magnitude of other games, especially when both teams carry the same record going into the match.

DFS Player to Watch: Joe Mixon | RB | $6,300 DraftKings | $6,700 FanDuel

Joe Mixon had a down week against the Bears (20 carries, 69 yards) compared to his week 1 performance against the Vikings (29 carries, 127 yards and a touchdown). Nonetheless, he’ll see plenty of action against a Steelers defense that is missing some starters.

CARDINALS (2-0) AT JAGUARS (0-2) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Arizona (-7) O/U: 52.5

This could be the most lopsided game of week 3. The Cardinals are loaded top to bottom both offensively and defensively while the Jags are in year one of a tear down/rebuild. Jacksonville has limited talent on the roster outside of Trevor Lawrence. The Cardinals are one of those teams where it’s hard to catch up once you fall behind them. Thank the dynamic and unpredictable Kyler Murray for that. The Cards were lucky to survive after a missed Vikings field goal last week. This week they won’t need luck to vanquish the Jags on the road.

DFS Player to Watch: Christian Kirk | WR | $5,400 DraftKings | $5,700 FanDuel

Kirk and Kyler have a bond and the chemistry is undeniable. Yes, there are other players on the Cardinals that will vacuum up targets but this kid is explosive, Murray should throw for 300+ yards, DeAndre Hopkins is questionable and Kirk’s salary is reasonable.

Sunday, Sept. 26th (Aft. Slate)

JETS (0-2) AT BRONCOS (2-0) — 4:05pm EST CBS

Favorite: Denver (-10.5) O/U: 41.5

The Teddy Bridgewater resurgence continues against the suspect Jets defense. John Elway and Broncos head coach Vic Fangio have to be thrilled with how Bridgewater has played through two weeks, despite the lowly opposition they’ve faced (Giants, Jaguars). But that’s the point here. QBs in a new system benefit from having “softer” defenses to play against. That’s how they get into a rhythm that can be sustained for the season. Couple that with the Broncos stingy defense and you have a team that can give anyone fits on a Sunday. And then there’s Zac Wilson. He threw four interceptions against the Patriots. It won’t be surprising if the Broncos defense snags a few of their own. In fact, if you’re looking for the best DFS Defense and Special Teams (DST) this week, this is probably it.

DFS Player to Watch: Teddy Bridgewater | QB | $5,800 DraftKings | $7,300 FanDuel

Bridgewater is a value pick, QB shoppers. He may not be sexy but he’s put up some impressive numbers through two games (54-70, 592 yards, four touchdowns and no picks). The fact that he doesn’t play on an offensive powerhouse keeps his price down. Just be sure to check Bronco injuries on Sunday before the game.

DOLPHINS (1-1) AT RAIDERS (2-0) — 4:05pm EST CBS

Favorite: Las Vegas (-4) O/U: 45

The Dolphins got blown out at home by the Bills 35-0. Meanwhile, the Raiders managed an impressive win on the road against the Steelers. What do both teams have in common despite the different outcomes? Both of their QBs were injured and their availability is in question for this week 3 sin city faceoff. If Carr (ankle) is still hobbling on Sunday, the Raiders’ starter will be Nathan Peterman. That alone would turn off most fantasy players from this game. But it gets worse, as Tua is confirmed out. It will be fill-in Jacoby Brissett taking the brunt of the Raider’s exceptional pass rush.

DFS Player to Watch: Jaylen Waddle | WR | $4,600 DraftKings | $5,500 FanDuel

Jaylen Waddle figures to see plenty of action on Sunday regardless if Brissett is getting harrased, and regardless of WR Will Fuller’s debut. With 8 targets last week, Waddle’s usage shouldn’t be in doubt.

BUCCANEERS (2-0) AT RAMS (2-0) — 4:25pm EST FOX

Favorite: Tampa Bay (-1) O/U: 55

It’s a sin that this game wasn’t scheduled for prime time. Brady and the red-hot Bucs will travel across the country to take on Matt Stafford and his Rams. The line and total say it all. This is a heavyweight bout between two elite NFC contenders. Steer clear of Rams rushers, given a stingy Tampa line that’s allowed no more than 38 yards to any RB thus far. Fun fact: This will be Brady’s first NFL game in Los Angeles. It’s a safe bet that both he and his Buc-mates will make it a memorable one, likely heading back to Florida with a 3-0 record.

DFS Player to Watch: Rob Gronkowski | TE | $5,500 DraftKings | $6,500 FanDuel

We’re going back to the well on this one. Rob Gronkowski has 6 TDs in his last three games and remains a matchup mismatch for opposing defenses—even for the #1 defense that is the Rams. He and Brady are clicking again and Brady will have to get rid of the ball quick against the Rams pass rush. Look for them to link up 5+ times in the game.

SEAHAWKS (1-1) AT VIKINGS (0-2) 4:25pm EST FOX

Favorite: Seattle (-1.5) O/U: 55.5

The Seahawks and Vikings both suffered devastating defeats on Sunday, losses that could haunt them for the season. The Seahawks allowed the Titans to battle back from 24-9 at half-time to win 33-30 in OT. Meanwhile, the Vikings lost to the Cardinals by one point on a shanked 37-yard field goal from Greg Joseph. Neither team can afford a loss here. The Seahawks can’t afford to fall to 1-2 with the division’s other three teams undefeated. Nor can the Vikings fall into an 0-3 abyss. That could easily end their playoff hopes in the loaded NFC.

DFS Player to Watch: Kirk Cousins | QB | $6,300 DraftKings | $7,700 FanDuel

Kirk Cousins, despite the Vikings being 0-2, has played well enough. He’s averaging over 25 fantasy points so far. Through week two, Cousins has a stat line of 58-81, 595 yards, five touchdowns and no picks. Seeing as how the Seahawks secondary was dissected by both Carson Wentz and Ryan Tannehill, Cousins could do the same.

Sunday, Sept. 26th (Late Slate)

PACKERS (1-1) AT 49ERS (2-0) 8:20pm EST NBC

Favorite: San Francisco (-3.5) O/U: 49.5

Levi’s stadium has become a house of horrors for the Packers in recent years. Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers will look to make their record 3-0 against a Packers defense that struggles mightily against the run. Rushing is exactly what the 49ers offense prides themselves on. The question is, which Packers team is going to show up Sunday Night? The one that was humiliated against the Saints or the one that demolished the Lions during Monday’s 2nd half?

DFS Player to Watch: Deebo Samuel| WR | $6,700 DraftKings | $6,600 FanDuel

Deebo Samuel is the NFL leader in receiving yards (282) and YAC (155) after 2 weeks. Look for Jimmy Garoppolo’s favorite connection to Hoover up targets against a beatable secondary.

Monday, Sept. 27th

EAGLES (1-1) AT COWBOYS (1-1) — 8:15pm EST ESPN

Favorite: Dallas (-3.5) O/U: 51.5

Another NFC East showdown hits the primetime airwaves. Dak and the Cowboys did just enough to eek out a win against the Chargers on the road, despite Mike McCarthy forgetting how to manage the clock. As for Jalen Hurts, he’ll have his hands full against an improved Cowboys defense under new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Pressure will be on both teams to avoid falling into a 1-2 hole in the bunched-up NFC East.

DFS Player to Watch: Amari Cooper | WR | $6,300 DraftKings | $7,300 FanDuel

Amari Cooper and Dak have developed a solid connection in the last 2.5 years. Despite the emergence of CeeDee Lamb, that chemistry continues to be strong and reliable. What’s more, Cooper is under the radar this week after a meager 5.4-yard performance against the Chargers.

NFL Week 2 Predictions 2021

NFL DFS predictions post here every Tuesday night, including projected outcomes and players to watch for every matchup, every week. (We respond to all reader comments so jot them below.)

Thursday, Sept. 16th

GIANTS (0-1) AT WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (0-1) — 8:20pm EST NFLN

Favorite: Washington (-3) O/U: 41

The Giants visit the Washington Football Team on Thursday Night Football for the first divisional game in the NFC East. Division games are notoriously difficult to forecast due to each team’s familiarity with the other. The Giants struggled mightily against the Broncos’ defense in week 1. It’s pretty bad when Daniel Jones has more yards (27) than Saquon Barkley (26 on 10 carries). As for Washington’s vaunted defense, it allowed the Chargers to mount a 15-play game-winning drive. On the offensive side of the ball, Washington lost starting QB Fitzpatrick to a hip injury. Replacement, Taylor Heinicke, finished with a skimpy 122 passing yards and a TD. This game has the lowest total on the board this week—not exactly a DFS delight.

DFS Player to Watch: Taylor Heinicke | QB | $5,600 DraftKings | $6,700 FanDuel

Taylor Heinicke brought improvisation to the offense and a burst of energy to the home crowd when Fitzpatrick went down. His stats weren’t exactly world-beating in just over two quarters of play (11-15 / 122 yards / 17 yards rushing / 1 TD / 0 Int) but 28-year old Heinicke threw for over 300 yards in last year’s wildcard game. He could do the same against the visiting Giants on primetime TV.

Sunday, Sept. 19th (Early Slate)

49ERS (1-0) AT EAGLES (1-0) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: San Francisco (-3.5) O/U: 50

The 49ers survived a late-game collapse against the Lions to win 41-33 after leading 41-17 with just two minutes left. The Eagles on the other hand absolutely demolished the Falcons on the road 32-6. This could be a scoring-fest with both teams exploiting the other run defense and coverage weaknesses. The loser will likely be the quarterback who makes the biggest mistake(s).

DFS Player to Watch: Deebo Samuel | WR | $6,700 DraftKings | $6,900 FanDuel

Deebo Samuel was a man on a mission, punishing the Lions with 189 yards and a touchdown. Jimmy G (314 yards + one TD) was slinging it all over the place, but had the best chemistry with Samuel, by far.

BENGALS (1-0) AT BEARS (0-1) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Chicago (-3) O/U: 45

The Bengals made a statement Sunday by outmuscling the Vikings, winning in OT on a last-minute field goal. Joe Burrow was solid (20-27 / 261 yards / 2 TDs / 0 Int) and the Bengals defense overpowered the Vikings’ interior line, harashing Cousins and limiting Dalvin Cook to just 61 yards. The Bears, meanwhile, got manhandled by the Rams on Sunday Night Football, due in part to poor play calling by Matt Nagy and a mediocre Andy Dalton. The Bears are home favorites but they easily had the worst pass coverage in week 1. Don’t be surprised to see the Bengals take it to the Bears on the road.

DFS Player to Watch: Joe Burrow | QB | $5,800 DraftKings | $7,100 FanDuel

While Joe Mixon deserves props for his 127-yard rushing performance, Burrow is one to watch. The Bengals offense goes through him and he could easily best his week 1 numbers against a Bears defense that coughed up 34 points and 300+ passing yards to Matt Stafford.

TEXANS (0-1) AT BROWNS (0-1) — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Cleveland (-12.5) O/U: 48

The Texans welcomed Trevor Lawrence and Urban Meyer to the NFL with a sledgehammer. Tyrod Taylor and Brandin Cooks lit up the Jags and made everyone do a second-take on the 37-21 final score. This week Houston’s task gets tougher, facing the Browns on the road. Despite their week 1 stumble, the Browns are a legitimate contender in the AFC. They absolutely stuffed the run and gave the Chiefs all they could handle on Sunday, before Magic Mahomes took over in the fourth quarter. The Browns will take out their frustrations from that loss on the visiting Texans who are battling for respect.

DFS Player to Watch: Nick Chubb | RB | $7,800 DraftKings | $8,400 FanDuel

Nick Chubb scored two touchdowns on 83 yards in just 15 carries. The Browns offensive line is one of the best in the league. It should open plenty of lanes for Chubb to run roughshod over the Texans.

RAMS (1-0) AT COLTS (0-1) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Los Angeles (-4) O/U: 47.5

The Matt Stafford/Sean McVay era is off to a red hot start in LA. The Carson Wentz/Colts era? Somewhat turbulent to say the least. Russell Wilson and the Seahawks absolutely exposed the Colts secondary and Carson Wentz struggled against the Seahawks’ leaky defense. The Colts will have their hands full dealing with Rams defense, the league’s top ranked unit in 2020. Meanwhile, the Rams mixture of air raid passing and ground and pound running should exploit the Colts tackling and coverage woes.

DFS Player to Watch: Matthew Stafford | QB | $6,400 DraftKings | $7,500 FanDuel

Matt Stafford was phenomenal in his LA debut, going for 20-26, 321 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday. He’ll look to pad those stats against a Colts secondary that got exposed by Russell Wilson.

BILLS (0-1) AT DOLPHINS (1-0) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Buffalo (-3.5) O/U: 47.5

The Bills were humbled at home after collapsing in the fourth quarter against the Steelers. The vaunted Bills offense stalled out, failing to counter the Steelers’ haymakers late in the game. Buffalo will have its hands full against a feisty and opportunistic Dolphins defense in the blistering heat and humidity of South Florida. The Dolphins won a close one against Mac Jones and the Patriots on the road. Miami now tries for its second win of the season—and in the division—in front of the home crowd. The Bills will bring everything they’ve got to avoid going 0-2.

DFS Player to Watch: Josh Allen | QB | $7,200 DraftKings | $8,100 FanDuel

Josh Allen was a shell of his 2020 self last week. While surprising to watch, it’s unlikely that he’ll struggle for a second straight week. Look for Allen to bounce back big on the road against his AFC East rival.

PATRIOTS (0-1) AT JETS (0-1) — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: New England (-5.5) O/U: 43

The Pats suffered only the second home loss to the Dolphins in eleven years on Sunday. It was a winnable game that slipped away thanks to a costly Pats fumble inside the red zone with three minutes left. As for the Jets, they rallied in the second half against the Panthers after an abysmal first half from Zac Wilson. But they still lost. The Pats will look to get into the win column against the rebuilding Jets, who lost 5 players to injuries in week 1.

DFS Player to Watch: Mac Jones | QB | $5,400 DraftKings | $6,800 FanDuel

Mac Jones was solid enough in his regular season debut: 29-39, 281 yards and a touchdown. Now he gets the Jets, with one of the worst pass coverage units in the business. Given he’s the bulk of New England’s offense, and despite the Jet’s solid pass rush, Jones should easily post more than 3X his salary on DraftKings.

RAIDERS (1-0) AT STEELERS (1-0) — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Pittsburgh (-5.5) O/U: 47

The Steelers pulled off an incredible comeback against the Bills on the road and will look to go 2-0 against their historic AFC rival Raiders. The Raiders just survived what can only be described as the wildest game of this young season. They overcame a fourteen-point deficit and endured a Carr interception in the end zone to stun the Ravens. The Ravens’ D looked somewhat pedestrian while the Raiders upgraded pass rush was drew the highest PFF rating of the week (91.2). Vegas will no doubt find Pittsburgh much less hospitable of an environment this Sunday.

DFS Player to Watch: Ben Roethlisberger | QB | $5,900 DraftKings | $7,200 FanDuel

Ben Roethlisberger, along with his defense, carried his team to a stunning last-minute victory against the Bills with a stat line of 435 yards and one touchdown. The Raiders defense, while seemingly improved under new defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, is not the Steelers’ defense. With the training wheels not yet off Pittsburgh RB Najee Harris, look for Big Ben to have another 300+ yard passing day at Heinz Field.

SAINTS (1-0) AT PANTHERS (1-0) — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: New Orleans (-3.5) O/U: 44

Jameis Winston and the Saints defense completely embarrassed the Packers on a neutral field Sunday. Reigning MVP and “trade-me” squabler, Aaron Rodgers, was the week’s worst starting fantasy QB. How often do you say that? And Winston? He was the height of efficiency. Count five touchdowns on just 148 yards passing with zero INTs. The Saints’ defense put Winston and the offense in terrific positions all afternoon. As for the Panthers, they edged the lowly Jets with Sam Darnold looking confident and McCaffrey back to his former glory. The pressure will now be turned way up on the Panthers as they face a new-look Saints defense and a rejuvenated Jameis Winston.

DFS Player to Watch: Christian McCaffrey | RB | $9,900 DraftKings | $10,000 FanDuel

Christian McCaffrey should get his first TD of the year and be the crux of the Panthers’ offense, as usual. Although, he may have more luck in the air versus New Orleans rock wall run D. Either way, McCaffrey (98 yards rushing and 89 yards receiving vs. New York) presents no shortage of matchup issues, with his knack for driving through the smallest holes, and getting wide open on routes.

BRONCOS (1-0) AT JAGUARS (0-1) — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Denver (-6) O/U: 45.5

Teddy Bridgewater and the Broncos went into the big apple on Sunday and thoroughly dominated the New York Giants on both sides of the ball. The Jaguars? They were outclassed by the Houston Texans of all teams, also on both sides of the ball. Lawrence tossed a trio of touchdowns but also threw three interceptions. The Broncos defense is more formidable than the Texans’ so Lawrence will have to get the jitters out by Sunday to give the Jags any chance.

DFS Player to Watch: Teddy Bridgewater | QB | $5,400 DraftKings | $7,000 FanDuel

Teddy Bridgewater put up 264 passing yards and 2 touchdowns against the Giants. He should have just as big a day against the Jags woeful secondary. Indeed, Bridgewater looked poised on Sunday with a 28 for 36 completion rate. Perhaps it’s the start of a Ryan Tannehill-like resurgence for the 28-year-old Louisville product.

Sunday, Sept. 19th (Aft. Slate)

VIKINGS (0-1) AT CARDINALS (1-0) — 4:05pm EST FOX

Favorite: Arizona (-4.5) O/U: 51

This game could get ugly mighty quick. The Vikings are loaded with talent and well coached, but their failure against the New Kids on the Block Bengals raised eyebrows. Minnesota played catch-up the entire game and ultimately shot themselves in the foot one too many times, culminating in a Dalvin Cook fumble that set up a heartbreaking overtime field goal for Cincy. The Cardinals? They made easy work of what many consider a shoe-in AFC playoff team. Kyler Murray threw for four touchdowns and walked one in, while Chandler Jones had five sacks…FIVE. The Cardinals are loaded on both sides of the ball and they’ll flex that muscle in front of the home crowd this week.

DFS Player to Watch: Kyler Murray | QB | $8,200 DraftKings | $8,700 FanDuel

Kyler Murray is the top-priced QB on DraftKings this week, climbing $600. And for good reason. Murray is an elite dual threat that can shred defenses with both his arms and his shifty legs. He’ll wreak more destruction Sunday against Mike Zimmer’s vulnerable defense.

FALCONS (0-1) AT BUCCANEERS (1-0) — 4:05pm EST FOX

Favorite: Tampa Bay (-13) O/U: 52

The Falcons passing attack short-circuited in a disastrous outing against the Eagles. Matt Ryan, who is starting to show some age, could only muster 164 yards, with no TDs. And things don’t get any easier for week 2. Atlanta faces the defending Super Bowl champs on the road in the scorching heat and humidity. Vegas linemakers peg this as the biggest mismatch of the week.

DFS Player to Watch: Tom Brady | QB | $6,900 DraftKings | $8,200 FanDuel

The ageless GOAT probably sees Atlanta like a starved lion sees a gimpy antelope. And it just so happens that Bruce Arians loves to take deep shots down the field. Heck, with Brady as QB and an embarrassment of riches at WR, why wouldn’t he — especially against one of the NFL’s worst pass defenses? If you’re wondering how to pick the best DFS quarterback this week, you could do a lot worse than TB.

COWBOYS (0-1) AT CHARGERS (1-0) — 4:25pm EST CBS

Favorite: Los Angeles (-3) O/U: 55

There’s no such thing as a moral victory in the NFL, or so the saying goes. But the Cowboys should feel pretty good after the inspired effort they gave on opening night in Tampa. Dak Prescott put on a show and silenced all doubters with a 403-yard, three-touchdown performance. Justin Herbert and the Chargers strong all-around defense may not be Tampa, but they’re far from slouches. This game is tied for the biggest projected total of the week so expect high fantasy ownership in this one.

DFS Player to Watch: Dak Prescott | QB | $6,800 DraftKings | $8,000 FanDuel

Was last week’s effort against the Buccaneers the exception or the rule? We believe the latter. The Chargers front seven will do their best to rattle him but Dak isn’t easily rattled. He’s got an array of receiving talent and a running back that is not the man he once was, two good reasons to throw the football.

TITANS (0-1) AT SEAHAWKS (1-0) 4:25pm EST CBS

Favorite: Seattle (-5.5) O/U: 54

The Titans were humbled in their own house by the Cardinals. Arizona’s defense held last year’s offensive player of the year, Derrick Henry, to a meager 58 yards rushing. The Seahawks experienced a much different week. Russell Wilson went off on the Colts for 254 yards and four touchdowns. Needless to say, the Titans’ suspect defense is a glaring weakness for one of the most elusive and explosive quarterbacks in the NFL.

DFS Player to Watch: Russell Wilson | QB | $7,500 DraftKings | $8,500 FanDuel

Russell Wilson was on fire last week and he’ll almost assuredly play possessed again versus a leaky Titans defense. Metcalf, Lockett and Carson are a power-trio that should be fed regularly by Wilson. And we all know how much of a home field advantage the rabid fans of Lumen Field are.

Sunday, Sept. 19th (Late Slate)

CHIEFS AT RAVENS 8:20pm EST NBC

Favorite: Kansas City (-3.5) O/U: 55

The Chiefs were backed against the wall by the Browns on Sunday before rallying to defeat their AFC North foes 33-29 behind 23 second half points. The Chiefs look every bit as explosive and dangerous as they have the last three seasons. The Ravens will be playing at home but injuries have decimated their backfield and defense. Their OT loss to the Raiders was soul-crushing. That’s the bad news. The worse news is that the Chiefs will be even tougher for their defense to contain. Lamar Jackson has lost his last 3 games against KC. The #1 ranked fantasy QB heading into week one will have to get more creative to out-score the Chiefs this time.

DFS Player to Watch: Patrick Mahomes | QB | $8,300 DraftKings | $8,600 FanDuel

Mahomes faces a less formidable Ravens secondary that got torched by Raiders superstar TE, Darren Waller. Luckily enough, the Chiefs have a superstar TE of their own, as well as WR that can outrun all defenders. This is likely not going to be a run-heavy game for KC.

Monday, Sept. 20th

LIONS AT PACKERS — 8:15pm EST ESPN

Favorite: Green Bay (-10.5)

The Lions nearly pulled off the impossible against the 49ers when they came back from 41-17 and lost 41-33 with a chance to tie the game at the last second. It showed guts and effort, the likes of which hasn’t been seen in the motor city since the Jim Caldwell days. This team may be rebuilding but they’re not going to roll over for anybody. The Packers got absolutely humiliated in Jacksonville against the New Orleans Saints and Aaron Rodgers had the worst statistical performance of his career. The other Aaron, Aaron Jones, tallied an unbelievably pitiful 9 yards rushing. The question is, which Packers team will show up to play at Lambeau on Sunday?

DFS Player to Watch: Aaron Rodgers | QB | $6,600 DraftKings | $8,000 FanDuel

Aaron Rodgers threw two picks and led his team to a whopping three points, and New Orleans wasn’t even playing in its home stadium. He’ll desperately try to wipe the egg off his face in front of the cheese heads on prime time. Thankfully for him—the Lions’ defense is much easier to dissect than New Orleans.’

NFL Week 1 Predictions | 2021

NFL DFS predictions post here every Tuesday night. Get projected outcomes and players to watch for every matchup, every week. (We respond to all reader comments so send ’em our way.)

Thursday, Sept. 9th

COWBOYS AT BUCCANEERS — 8:20pm EST NBC

Favorite: Tampa (-8)

The Super Bowl LV champs will kick off the 2021 season by lifting their title banner to the rafters. And they’ll do it in front of their home crowd and the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys had one of the worst pass defenses in the league last year, but have added new pieces to bolster their secondary (Keanu Neal, Malik Hooker). Former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn takes over as Defensive Coordinator.

The Buccaneers are returning all 22 of their Super Bowl starters, as well as their head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators. This could be a long night for the “boys” against the most balanced team in the league.

DFS Player to Watch: Mike Evans | WR | $6,500 DraftKings | $7,600 FanDuel

Bruce Arians and Brady should attack the the Cowboys’ suspect secondary early and often with their bevy of weapons. Seeing the most action out of the bunch could be Evans. He led the team in receiving yards last year and could repeat the feat this year.

Sunday, Sept. 12th (Early Slate)

EAGLES AT FALCONS — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Atlanta (-3)

The Eagles are embarking on a complete rebuild under first-year head coach Nick Sirianni. The Falcons, also under the stewardship of a first-year head coach—Arthur Smith—are in a much foggier position. Their biggest loss is clearly franchise legend Julio Jones, but the Falcons still have a strong offensive roster on paper with Matt Ryan, Calvin Ridley and highly touted rookie tight end Kyle Pitts. Look for the Falcons’ offense to test the new look Eagles’ secondary throughout the game as their defense tries to stifle Jalen Hurts.

DFS Player to Watch: Kyle Pitts | TE | $4,400 DraftKings | $6,000 FanDuel

Matt Ryan has had plenty of explosive players at his disposal over the years, but none were built like this 6’6, 246-pound behemoth out of UF. Born and raised in Philly, the rookie will benefit from Jone’s departure and might just put on a show against his hometown team.

STEELERS AT BILLS — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Buffalo (-6.5)

The Steelers will travel to face Josh Allen and the Bills in front of what is sure to be a rabid home crowd. As strong as the Bills’ offense was last year, one could make the argument that this year’s is even better, particularly with the addition of veteran receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Expect Big Ben’s arm to get a workout if the Steelers can’t establish their run game against the Bills early. He’s capable of throwing for big numbers. Problem is, when the opposing offense becomes one dimensional, the Bills defense thrives. It could be a brutal slugfest between two AFC hopefuls.

DFS Player to Watch: Josh Allen | QB | $7,400 DraftKings | $8,100 FanDuel

As one of the most electrifying players to watch last year, Allen was the NFL’s highest-scoring fantasy player. He should be the star of this Steelers rematch. The Bills got the “W” in their week 14, 2020 clash with Pittsburgh, 26-15.

VIKINGS AT BENGALS — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Minnesota (-3)

Joe Burrow’s return from his MCL/ACL injury last year will be at home against Mike Zimmer’s reloaded Vikings’ defense. Needless to say this should be a tough task for Burrow and an even tougher task for the Bengals’ defense. They’re facing a formidable offense in Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, Dalvin Cook and Adam Thielen. The Bengals have slowly enhanced their roster since third-year head coach Zac Taylor took over, but they still have glaring weaknesses on both sides of the ball, which the Vikings will exploit.

DFS Player to Watch: Dalvin Cook | RB | $9,100 DraftKings | $9,400 FanDuel

The Vikings have no problem letting Cousins air it out, but Zimmer LOVES running the ball, sometimes to a fault. Look for the Vikings’ powerhouse running back to attack the Bengals’ 29th ranked rush defense all throughout the game.

49ERS AT LIONS — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: San Francisco (-7.5)

The Niners suffered a nightmare 2020 season due to an unprecedented amount of injuries to their starters. It’s almost a miracle that they were able to win six games last year. This year should be different as they are not only healthy on both sides of the ball but also have a two-headed monster at QB. The Lions are finally in full rebuild mode under first-year head coach Dan Campbell. They’ll be fielding Jared Goff at QB after trading franchise stalwart Matt Stafford to the Rams. The Niners are a Super Bowl contender on paper and will look to flex their muscle on the road against former nemesis Goff and his new Motor City kneecap removers.

DFS Player to Watch: George Kittle | TE | $6,300 DraftKings | $7,000 FanDuel

Jimmy Garoppolo’s favorite target figures to be a central part of the Niners’ game plan against the Lions. Few teams are equipped to stop him from wreaking havoc.

CARDINALS AT TITANS — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Tennessee (-3)

Kyler Murray and the feisty Cardinals travel to play the relatively new powerhouse that is the Titans. While the Cardinals have added defensive stud J.J. Watt, the Titans have also added a veteran star to their roster: wideout Julio Jones.

While Murray creates headaches for opposing defenses with his legs, and DeAndre Hopkins is a top three receiver, the Titans have a weapon that all opposing defenses lose sleep over: Derrick Henry. Even if the Cardinals find a way to limit Henry, they’ll still have to deal with A.J. Brown and Julio Jones. It’s a matchup made for offense lovers.

DFS Player to Watch: Derrick Henry | RB | $8,800 DraftKings | $8,900 FanDuel

In all honesty there are several viable names to put in this section (A.J. Brown, Julio Jones, Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins), but the reality is, Henry’s size and speed are freakish. The Cardinals’ defense face Henry in his house, where he frequently delights the crowd by running roughshod over Titans’ opponents.

SEAHAWKS AT COLTS — 1:00pm EST FOX

Favorite: Indianapolis (-2.5)

Russell Wilson goes head to head with the Colts’ defense and off-season acquisition of Carson Wentz. While Wilson has plenty of weapons at his disposal, his offensive line is still a question mark. Odds are, he could be running for his life once again, thanks to the Colts’ fierce defensive line.

DFS Player to Watch: D.K. Metcalf | WR | $7,500 DraftKings | $7,700 FanDuel

With world-class speed and size, Metcalf is one of those receivers that defensive coordinators have to plan around. Look for Wilson to target him extensively.

CHARGERS AT WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: L.A. (-1)

Get the popcorn, for it’s another showdown of a dynamic QB vs. an elite defensive line. Justin Herbert was a revelation last year for both the Chargers’ organization and the NFL at large. But now teams have had a full off-season to study him on tape. Herbert will try to come out slinging against one of the most intimidating defensive lines in the league. It may not end well, particularly if Ryan Fitzpatrick elevates the Washington offense. This matchup happens only every four years, and this time both teams are on the rise.

DFS Player to Watch: Justin Herbert | QB | $6,700 DraftKings | $7,600 FanDuel

Fantasy owners are counting on Herbert (QB9) to take a big leap forward in his second year under center. It’ll be a tough task on the road against Ron Rivera’s defense, but he’ll have no choice but to keep throwing against Fitzpatrick, Gibson (RB14) and McLaurin (WR23).

JETS AT PANTHERS — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Carolina (-5.5)

The big storyline here is Sam Darnold. The 2018 3rd overall pick hosts the very team that drafted him and subsequently cast him off to Carolina, only to draft his successor Zach Wilson 2nd overall. Both teams are in the early stages of rebuilding, but the big difference is, Darnold hands off to the most dynamic fantasy back in the game: Christian McCaffrey.

DFS Player to Watch: Christian McCaffrey | RB | $9,500 DraftKings | $10,400 FanDuel

McCaffrey is the most dangerous running back in the game when healthy, and he finally is. His speed and agility in the backfield paired with his pass-catching prowess make him a threat on any down. The jets run D, while decent, is likely overmatched.

JAGUARS AT TEXANS — 1:00pm EST CBS

Favorite: Jacksonville (-3)

The Trevor Lawrence show debut this Sunday. And thanks to off-field problems with Deshaun Watson, we’ll see Lawrence vs. Tyrod Taylor in Houston this Sunday. The Texans and Jags are both in their first year of a complete tear down but divisional games are fun to watch regardless. Lawrence, this year’s first overall pick, will have plenty of targets in Jones, Shenault Jr. and Chark.

DFS Player to Watch: Trevor Lawrence | QB | $6,200 DraftKings | $6,800 FanDuel

Lawrence will be facing a defense that ranked 28th in total efficiency last year. If Urban Meyer can get him into a groove early, Lawrence could post respectable numbers against the Texans’ suspect secondary.

Sunday, Sept. 12th (Aft. Slate)

BROWNS AT CHIEFS — 4:25pm EST CBS

Favorite: K.C. (-6)

It’s a rematch of last year’s divisional round matchup between the Browns and Chiefs. The Browns matured into true contenders last year after a woeful 2019 campaign. Under Kevin Stefanski, in his first year at the helm, Baker Mayfield shook off his 2019 sophomore slump and took full advantage of the bevy of talented weapons at his disposal. On the other side of the field Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will look to avoid the dreaded Super Bowl hangover. They’ll try to begin their road back to the big game with a home win over a legitimate contender in the AFC. Arrowhead stadium’s crowd noise make it notoriously inhospitable, but if any team is talented and hungry enough to pull out an upset, it’s Mayfield’s Browns.

DFS Player to Watch: Patrick Mahomes | QB | $8,100 DraftKings | $8,800 FanDuel

The number of blue-chip fantasy players that will be active for this game are almost too many to list: Nick Chubb, Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham Jr., Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Baker Mayfield…the list could go on. At the end of the day it’s almost impossible to pick anyone other than Mahomes. He’s been a consistent producer for fantasy owners since he became the starter in 2018. He should keep his numbers going despite a formidable Browns defense.

DOLPHINS AT PATRIOTS — 4:25pm EST CBS

Favorite: Miami (-3)

The Dolphins/Patriots rivalry gets more interesting this year. This AFC East division game will serve as what could be the first of many Mac vs. Tua showdowns. For the uninitiated, Mac Jones served as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup when they both played for Nick Saban at Alabama. Funny how things work out in the drama that is sports.

Brian Flores, a former assistant coach of Belichick, will seek to start the season off on the right foot in a stadium that has traditionally been hard to win in. The Pats have won no less than 10 of 11 home games against the ‘Fins since 2010.

DFS Player to Watch: Jaylen Waddle | WR | $3,600 DraftKings | $5,200 FanDuel

Waddle was the sixth overall pick this year. In addition to being a dynamic young receiver, he also has a vibe with Tua from their days together at Alabama. That history and chemistry should amount to a big debut for the rookie receiver, even against a Belichick defense.

PACKERS AT SAINTS — 4:25pm EST FOX

Favorite: Green Bay (-3)

Due to Hurricane Ida, the Saints will play their home opener versus the Packers at TIAA stadium in Jacksonville, FL. The Saints open the season with Jameis Winston as their starting QB, the first time without Drew Brees in fifteen years. Both teams usually struggle in hot weather, but this could be a high scoring contest. Fantasy owners of Alvin Kamara, Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams and Aaron Jones should expect dividends.

DFS Player to Watch: Alvin Kamara | RB | $8,600 DraftKings | $8,600 FanDuel

With Drew Brees officially out of the picture, Sean Payton could feed Kamara early and often and gradually work Winston’s throws into the game. And lest we forget, Kamara had the most receiving targets per game in 2020. What’s more, the Packers’ run defense remains vulnerable. The Saints top 10 offensive line should give Kamara all the openings he needs.

BRONCOS AT GIANTS 4:25pm EST FOX

Favorite: Denver (-3)

Teddy Bridgewater has earned the home start for the Broncos. He’ll look to impress the Mile High faithful against an underwhelming Daniel Jones. Among QBs, Jones was a pitiful 32nd in fantasy points per game in 2020. He checks very few boxes in our criteria for the best DFS quarterbacks.

Meanwhile, while the G-Men bolstered their defense in the off-season, their offensive line still has plenty of holes. The Bronco’s Vic Fangio, one of the top defensive-minded coaches in the league, will exploit those holes.

DFS Player to Watch: Saquon Barkley | RB | $7,800 DraftKings | $8,500 FanDuel

The Giants will cautiously ease him back into game action this Sunday. For a guy who tore his ACL and hasn’t played since week 2 of last year, however, his $7,800 (DraftKings) price tag isn’t cheap. That said, Barkley figures to get enough carries to lighten the load on Jones. And the Giants need him to perform, given their O-line should continually leak defenders into the pocket. Special bonus: Rumors of Barkley being on a snap count should limit his ownership.

BEARS AT RAMS 8:20pm EST NBC

Favorite: L.A. (-7.5)

The Rams will welcome the Bears into their glorious new stadium in front of a national audience. Andy Dalton gets the start over rookie Justin Fields, as LA welcomes former Lion Matt Stafford behind center. Look for the top-ranked Rams defense to harass Dalton, who’s trying to adjust to a new system behind an unproven pass blocking unit.

DFS Player to Watch: Matt Stafford | QB | $6,200 DraftKings | $7,400 FanDuel

Losing Cam Akers, the Ram’s heart and soul offensively, is a huge blow. But Stafford still has more than enough talent around him to put up 300+ yards, including Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. Stafford has received more hype than almost any other player this off-season. That kind of national spotlight is all new to him. He’ll either use it to fuel productive confidence, or buckle under the pressure.

RAVENS AT RAIDERS — 8:15pm EST ESPN

Favorite: Baltimore (-4.5)

Just like the Rams, the Raiders are welcoming fans to their first regular season game inside their state-of-the-art new stadium. The “Death Star,” as it’s come to be known, will be jam packed with Raider Nation enthusiasts. The problem for them is, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens are coming to town. The Raiders ranked 30th in total defense last year and have added no significant pieces to address it. Combine that with a Ravens team that features the most dangerous mobile QB in the game, and it could be a dismal opener for the black and silver.

DFS Player to Watch: Lamar Jackson | QB | $7,700 DraftKings | $8,600 FanDuel

Lamar Jackson has been a fantasy machine since taking the league by storm during his 2019 MVP season. He continues to be a top 10 fantasy point leader with his legs and his arm. The Monday night limelight and a porous opposing defence should be all he needs to exceed projections.
